Happy 4th and Happy Finishes

My week is starting off with a couple of finishes. My new quilt made with Pat Sloan's fabrics (mostly Hometown Girl) was finished just in time to hang on my front door to celebrate the 4th of July .  I've been wanting to make a flag quilt using aqua (love this combination) but saw a heart block made with strips so I combined the two ideas and came up with this.  This quilt measures 24" squares and was quick and easy to made.  The heart block measures 16" finished.

And another happy finish, all of the Smitten Blocks are done, the final 18 blocks are done. The other blocks can be seen on the following post, (here) and it only took watching all of the Gilmore Girl series and sequel, six movies, one documentary with eight episodes and six episodes of Blue Blood to finish the 28 blocks.  I just need to paper piece the setting blocks, decide on the layout and then I'm ready to sew the blocks together. Is it just me, but does paper piecing make your fingers sore?

It's only Tuesday, the 4th of July and I was hoping I could work on some more projects but I have to call it a week.  My granddaughter Micah and my DIL are coming in for an unexpected but happy four-day visit so quilting will have to come to  a standstill.  Maybe I can work on the replacement quilt for my Grandmother quilt, (you can read about it here) while they're here, because I still hoping to get it back from Micah.

Have a Happy and Safe Holiday!

  1. Loving your 'smitten' blocks! And I did laugh when I read all about the TV watching that went along with sewing them :)
    Happy 4th July!

    1. Thanks Linda! When you watch TV while doing handwork, you're really doing more listening than watching. I should try listening to audio books.

  2. Four days away from the sewing machine to play with Micah seems like heaven to me Rose! And just think about all that fabric you won't be eying off and buying! I get a lot of TV watching done while I'm hand quilting, but that's fine by me!

    1. That's the only way to watch TV is doing some handwork--otherwise it would be a waste of time just sitting there. BTW, Micah has left and has already gave me a request for another quilt. She's in love with fishes right now. A grandma's work is never done. Have a good week!

  3. Two finishes -- good for you! I love the little patriotic heart. Your Smitten blocks are lovely and I had to chuckle at all the shows you had to "endure" to finish them. Such is the life of a busy quilter, eh? I don't mind paper piecing, so I haven't found that it makes my hands sore. Looking forward to seeing the Smitten all done!

    1. Thanks Wendy. I'm wondering if I'm doing some wrong when I EPP--those Smitten blocks were challenging like all Kingwell patterns are.

    1. Thanks Emily. The quilt went together very fast and that's one of the reasons I love making small quilts.

    1. Thanks--I always have to have a handwork project for watching TV or when traveling. I definitely don't like having idle hands.

  8. Paper piecing hasn't bothered my hands but that's because my head hurts so much I don't try it very often. It's so backward that my brain can't function. Plus, I'm cheap so I cut the fabric too small. Let's just move on to that really pretty heart flag. Don't you love a fast project? And that you could display it right away...now that's instant gratification!

    1. Thanks Mary! I do love a fast project and wish I would do more of them; some of my walls and doors could use a new quilt. I'm planning one for the Fall, let's hope I get it done in time.
