When I previously posted about the making of this quilt, I may have sounded a little unenthused about this project being that I was using Cotton+Steel scraps that I have already used on many other quilts and was tired of seeing them and longing to work with some fresh new scraps. I did admit that I after laying the fabric strips next to the sashing I was beginning to come around. I absolutely love this pattern which is based on the Melissa Corry's Sugar Pop N Change quilt pattern found here: and the quilt made by Kats Craft here:
My block dimensions are different because I wanted to use the 2"x3-1/2" rectangles that I previously cut for another project and soon dropped because I liked this pattern more. Here are my pattern stats:
Quilt Size: 60" X 75"
Block Size: 15" Finished, twenty blocks total
Block Construction: Three strips of 10 rectangles 2" x 3-1/2"(cut) with four 2"x 15-1/2"(cut) strips.
Once the rectangles were sewn together and the sashing cut, this quilt sewed together so nice and fast. Did I mention how much I love this pattern? I would make this pattern again but with different fabric scraps, please. I really need to make a quilt with new Cotton + Steel fabrics so new scraps can be made.
I haven't included an update to my Minus 100 Yard Challenge lately so I am happy to say I haven't purchased any new fabric since my buying spree during the first week in April so I'm almost been fasting for a month. I will admit that I did receive some lovely fabric for my wedding anniversary, thank you 43 years, which doesn't count because I thoughtfully included a rule that gifts of fabric do not count. And guess what I'll be getting for Mother's Day.
Minus 100 Yard Challenge YTD Total: -53.75 yards
Last, but not least, this is Week 3 of the 2017 New Quilt Bloggers Blog Hop in which I am a member of the Better Blogger Bees. I am having the best time meeting fellow quilters on this Blog Hop and am amazed at the creativity and talent I am seeing. Great quilt. I must admit I'm not a great fan of Cotton and Steel but they do look great in this quilt. xx
ReplyDeleteThanks Gina. I really love this pattern and it's wonderful for scrap quilts. I looking forward to making another quilt with this pattern with the other scraps I have.
DeleteWhat a fantastic quilt! This will be great for using up some of my scraps. I'll definitely be saving these instructions. Thank you for sharing them.
ReplyDeleteAndrea
Thanks Andrea! Glad you like the quilt, it's very easy. Please let me know if you have any questions.
DeleteThat quilt is lovely! What a pretty way to use those scraps. I just might have to copy you with some of my fabrics. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Jen, thanks for your kind words. This quilt was fun and great for the scraps. Be sure to share your quilt.
DeleteA great quilt! Your c&s fabrics look wonderful teamed up with the white sashing!
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda. Fun quilt to make and I normally don't like to use white but it worked out perfectly.
DeleteSo very pretty. I am glad you decided to use your scraps. They make a gorgeous quilt.
ReplyDeleteThanks Pretti. I do like to use scraps or a lot of different fabrics for my quilt, the more the merrier.
DeleteWhat a fabulous quilt Rose! You find the best Scrappy patterns! This one is definitely going on my 'to-do' list! And it will be a quick make- something I also definitely need after all the curves, hand piecing and complicated patterns I've been working on!
ReplyDeleteThanks Susan! I had originally cut the rectangles for Jen Kingwell's Bonnie Lass pattern but as soon as I saw the quilt made by Kats Craft using her C+S scraps I had to make one also. The Sugar Pop & Pattern can be adjusted to fit your scrap size and of course to make it easier I made sure the number of rectangles I used for each row was an even number to make the sewing faster. I agree, sometimes after working complicated patterns and piecing like you do brilliantly, it's good to take a break by sewing an easy pattern. I'm still in this frame of mind after doing Gypsy Wife which I may never recover from doing.
DeleteIt is far nicer than Bonny Lass, and as far nicer than the original too! I am almost ready to start an easy one like this.. I just need to decide whether to make it super scrappy, or maybe use my ever growing stash of C&S. In the meantime I have pinned it for future reference!
DeleteYour quilt is so nice! I love the colors. What a great way to use up scraps. Wendy at piecefulthoughts@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteThanks Wendy. I was very lucky to have been inspired by a quilt made like this with C+S fabrics and just happened to have the rectangles cut already and had the sashing fabric in my stash. It was just meant to be. Now I have to figure out how to quilt it.
DeleteOMG I love your thoughtful rules for your challenge. LOLOL I scored some super sweet deals at Connecting Threads' sale a week or so ago. That quilt is terrific! It would be a great one for scraps and for H2H...you may have tossed a squirrel my way...
ReplyDeleteThanks Sandra! Would you believe after I read your post I went to shop at Connecting Threads and already have somethings in my cart. When will you be receiving your affiliate link? I can hold off placing my order until then.
ReplyDeleteGreat quilt! You are making progress on your reduction plan. I have slowed down this week, but hope to be quilting again next week.
ReplyDeleteHi Kathleen! Thanks. My reduction plan was once up to 71 yards but I indulged when the Quilt Show was in town with a purchase of 40 yards. . Working my way back up. Thank goodness for Mother's Day and my birthday next month. I hope you get some quilting done next week.
