October One More

I surprised myself with this finish which may have been prompted with having some quilt guilt for skipping the CT Dirty Dozen UFO Challenge for September and October. After we came home last week from the GP House and taking a few days to recover, I started thinking maybe I could have one more finish for October.
I had on my project list to make a quilt with the stash of Lori Holt fabrics which were mainly collected through the Fat Quarter Shop Blue Sampler Box.  I had a Rollie, Stackers and a Jolly Bar of the Flea Market, Calico and Mercantile fabrics and was thinking of making at first an oblong log cabin based on the Jolly Bar. I decided instead to make a Rambling Rows and Bars quilt, since I’ve already given the one away I made in February and I really like this pattern to use for a collection of fabric lines.
Once the flimsy was made and it just sang Country with the modern, vibrant Calico prints, I decided to name this my Dolly quilt as a remembrance of Dolly Parton whom I’m still sad about her recent passing. (I’ve watched Steel Magnolias at least four times). I have to mention that there are some good golly piecing because I really don’t like sewing with precuts due to the pinked edges and sometimes they are not cut accurately.
As usual, I made more rail blocks than needed and I bet you can see why this block wasn’t included in the quilt. I was sad the Mercantile print of the Ladies on the left couldn’t be used because of the orientation; it reminded me of when I was a little girl  in the fifties looking at pattern books at the department store with my mother—Butterick or Simplicity?
I had the perfect backing in the vault which is a pastel twill stripe from a Sandy Gervais Moda line and may be at least twenty years old. I machine quilted straight and wavey lines with CT Essential Thread in Mint. The mint green dot fabric used for the binding is not a Lori Holt print.
Dolly measures 64”x85” and it’s a good thing the Apprentice Quilt Holder happened to stop by before we left for the GP House to help the Master Quilt Holder and did not complain. I keep saying I have to stop making large quilts but I don’t think that will ever happen since I really want to use up my stash.

I mentioned in my last Post that I was contemplating the future of my blog and received some comments to continue. One of the problems with blogging is the guilt and pressure I feel when I don’t respond immediately to the comments left; I really do hate typing on my iPhone and having to pull out my little keyboard for the iPad which is acting up again. So, I think a possible solution is to disable comments on my Blog which I hope you don’t think I’m being snobby.

We’re leaving soon to spend the Halloween weekend with the darling Granddaughter. Wouldn’t it be fun for Quilters to go Trick or Treating for fabrics?
