The Splash of Color QAL Top Is Done

I'm a little late with this post but as soon as my granddaughter and her parents left on Friday, I went downstairs to my sewing studio to finish my Splash of Color quilt top.  Seven days was way too long to be away from my sewing machine but like I have said before, Micah takes precedent over quilting.  While I was sewing this top, I, again, made another change and will add it to the story of the making of this quilt which I'll  post once I quilt the top and it is finally completed. I'm experiencing some indecision with the quilting and the backing now which means it's time to take a little break from this project and work on something else.

You can read about the Busy Hands Quilts' Splash of Color QAL here and finished quilt tops are to be posted starting Tuesday, November 28th.  Myra will be hosting a parade of quilt show for the finished quilts after Christmas, just in case some of the quilts will be Christmas gifts, starting on January 2nd.  Hopefully, I'll make up my mind soon about finishing my quilt because I don't want to miss the parade.

  1. I'm so in love with this quilt! It is absolutely gorgeous. The pops of color with the black & white, just so eye-catching.

I can't wait to see the finished result!

    1. Thanks Liz. I'm thinking about how I want to quilt it, one day it's straight vertical lines then it goes back to wavy lines--maybe a combo. And then it's deciding on the backing. Decisions, Decisions.....

  2. Rose, it is gorgeous. I'm loving the black sashing between. It really shows up the colors.

    1. Thanks Shannon. I'm being the Waffle Queen on this quilt, can't make up my mind on straight line or wavy or maybe a combo. I decided to take a break from this quilt but I definitely want it finished for the parade.

  5. I love this. Just make a decision and quil it! I think we need to do another QAL together, that was fun when we did the last one. I do love this pattern. I am probably doing ChristaQuilts Squiggles QAL if you are interested. https://christaquilts.com/2017/10/13/squiggles-quilt-along-schedule-supply-list-preorder-your-kit/

    1. Thanks Kathleen! We did have fun with the Freefall QAL (which you got me involved when you asked about the pattern on the Bee Blog) and I was thinking the same thing about doing another QAL. I already planned on doing the Squiggles QAL, maybe we can get the other Sisters to join us. I already have the Pat Sloan fabrics in my stash.

  6. PS Nearly fell down the rabbit hole and ordered an Accuquilt. Looking to see Monday’s cyber deals..... My sewing room is in order (post this week) so I think I can justify it!!

  7. I love this quilt, Rose! So much happy color! My pineapple quilt is on hold while I try to make a decision on quilting it too. So I'll join you in working on something else while brewing thoughts on quilting!

    1. Thanks Wendy! This quilt is full of happy colors. I'm already working on another project which has a time commitment so it'll give me some time to decide. Hey, do you want to do a QAL with the Snob Sister and me?

  9. I love everything about your splash of color quilt! I'll have to keep this one in mind for future making as I have thought about doing half rectangle blocks for a while now. Did you have a pattern for it, or just made it up?

  10. Thanks Vicki! I had to chuckle about the pattern question--this was totally made up due to a series of unfortunate planning. I used my Sizzix die-Tesstelating Pinwheels (not half-rectangles) which was what I planned to make but changed my mind. There's a story about this quilt and will spill the beans once the quilt is finally finished. Let me know if you need more info on the die; the wonky half rectangle finished 6".

  12. Well geez Louise good thing I get your posts by email, because I still have half my blocks to MAKE yet...finished quilt tops? Yikes. I know she usually has her linky open for 10 days or so, so It'll be pedal to the metal once I get this e-zine quilt done. I love love your quilt rose! So striking. Can't wait to hear the story.

    1. Thanks Sandra! I know you can finish the top in time, you possess good creative energy. I also have a project to finish before I can quilt Splash of Color, at least I finally made my decisions.

    1. Thanks Preeti! I originally planned to make pinwheels but it just was not "doing" it for me plus there were some other issues which made me come up with an alternative design. I can't wait to finally quilt it and put out the "story".

    1. Thanks Sue. This was a great way to use up the black and white stash. Sadly, though, I did use up a lot of my Crazy Mom stash and her fabric is no longer available. I really loved this collection.
